Fitness activities are part of a healthy life style – nevertheless from experience you
know that sometimes you can fall hard or get injured during your workout. You
sprain fingers and toes, strain your back or just simply suffer from a wrong
move. I would like to introduce to
you some natural, very effective and no-side-effect remedies you can take
in first aid situations or even later if the injury does not heal properly.
These remedies help your body to heal itself fast and without chronic
affects. If you take for example Arnica right after the injury, bruising might not even develop; if you break a
finger, take Symphytum and you can return to practice in a shorter time than usual.
Try one of the following remedies when you need them next time –
experience the difference for yourself!
With 10 basic remedies you can help yourself or your peer players in
most first aid situations you encounter during practice. Keep one set of these
10 remedies at your gym – it will be plenty for everyone. For an injury you
need to take only 1-3 doses (each vial contains about 30 doses). Homeopathy is
based on the principle of the minimum dose – you take the least amount that
starts the healing process. The rest is your own body’s job.

Arnica -
is the #1 remedy for any injury and trauma. Use it always as the first remedy
unless another remedy is obviously indicated. The symptoms associated with this
remedy are bruising, swelling, black eyes, fainting from traumatic injury.
Arnica
ointment
for external application. Never use this ointment on open wounds. On open wounds
apply Calendula ointment.
Aconite
–
use
this remedy for shock, when fear or panic is more apparent than physical trauma.
Bryonia –
is the right remedy for bruises, sprains, strains, and fractures when even the
slightest motion causes pain. Imagine the pain of a broken rib. Even taking a
breath is unbearable – similar to this great sensitivity to motion anywhere in
the body needs Bryonia.
Cuprum – for
cramps.
Hypericum –
for any nerve injury. This pain is sharp and shooting. This is also a good
remedy for tailbone injury and for smashed fingers or toes.
Ledum –
swollen joints, cold & pale; sprained ankle, smashed fingers, toes etc. The
most striking symptom is that the area feels cold or numb and is better from
ice-cold applications.
Phosphorus
– excessive bleeding
Rhus
tox –
sprains; stiffness of joints with great desire to move, restlessness. Pain worse
for initial movement but then improves with motion. Also called the ‘rusty
gate’, better from gradual limbering. Injury of tendons, muscles; bursitis,
tendonitis.
Ruta
– injuries of tendons, cartilage and periosteum (shin), wrist, ankles. Damage
& weakness. Aching pain, bruised. Better from gentle motion
Symphytum
– Blunt injuries of the eyes. Also for broken bones, fractures: greatly
reduces healing time; use one dose daily while the bone is healing.

Please be
advised that homeopathic remedies are to be used along (and not instead of) ice
packs and urgent medical care. Seek medical help if your symptoms persist.

WHERE
TO BUY HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES:
Homeopathic
remedies are sold in most health food stores and natural pharmacies. In the
Boston area try
Johnson’s Pharmacy in Waltham, MA. You can also order remedies over the
internet.
Store
remedies in a dry, cool place, away from strong odors.
HOW
TO TAKE REMEDIES:
Take one
dose (3 pellets) as soon after injury as possible. Put the pellets under your
tongue and let them dissolve (do not take water with it). If there is no
significant improvement in 15 minutes take another dose. You can repeat these
remedies every 3 hours for up to 48 hours. Once improvement starts stop taking
the remedy. If your symptoms persist for more than 2 days consult a professional
homeopath.
